Over the holidays I purchased the Fuji S1 camera and have been extremely impressed! The camera features a 50X optical zoom! That is amazing and it works really well. Another one of the features I really like is the fact that it is weather resistant so it can be used during inclement weather without worrying about damaging the camera. With the Wi-Fi connectivity I can easily transfer photos from the camera to my phone or tablet via the Fuji app. Really amazing technology. Below are some of my first photos with the Fuji S1, each of the photos taken in auto mode. Click photos to enlarge.
I've been in New Mexico (Tijeras, just outside Albuquerque) since the beginning of the year helping some friends with their business. Being from Idaho it has taken some time to get used to the very dry conditions here in NM but it is a beautiful state.
My friends run a business called New Mexico Chile Products so I've been enjoying some incredible food during my stay.
I will heading back to Idaho next week but here are a handful of photos from my stay in New Mexico including some from areas that the show Breaking Bad was filmed at.
The Nikon Coolpix S6800 is a great camera for those looking for a lightweight point and shoot camera with reasonable zoom and built in Wi-Fi.
With a 12X zoom and 18 built in scene modes it will appeal to many looking for an affordable alternative to Smartphone cameras....but the Coolpix S6800 even brings your smartphone to life!
Admittedly, I have been using my Samsung Smartphone for taking more photos lately. Part of the reason is convenience (I always have my phone with me" and the other part is the ease of sharing photos and auto-back up.
The camera on my phone is 8 MP but the "zoom" is horrible. So unless I am close to my subject, the Smartphone camera is not a great option.
But for those situations where I am close to the subject it really works pretty darn well....But...
Does it get any easier than this to transfer pictures from your memory card to your computer?
Is there such a thing as a camera with too much zoom?
The supermoon is this weekend!
On Sunday, June 23, at 7 a.m. EDT (1100 GMT), the moon will arrive at perigee — the point in its orbit bringing it closest to Earth), a distance of 221,824 miles (356,991 kilometers).
This should make for some great photography...Will you be taking photos?
Lets face it...just about everyone today uses a smartphone and the cameras on them are getting more and more impressive.
I recently purchased the Samsung Galaxy S2 and it has an 8MP camera plus HD video! It is so convenient when out and about without the need to carry a separate camera and the photos it takes are quite impressive! (will be posting photos in an upcoming blog post).
So, this leads to the question...Are Smartphone cameras as good as stand alone point and shoot cameras?
What do you think?

Our Golden Retriever, Ace can be such a character! He turned 4 in August.
It used to be that if he heard or saw someone going into the kitchen he would jump up and be at their feet waiting for them to drop that tasty morsel of food.
Now, he just casually lifts his head, checks out the situation and decides if it's worth the energy to investigate further :)
